Indicators for Rand Repair

How to be sure if you need rand repair.

Before Rand Damage

If the rand (the rubber strip that wraps around the toe-box of your shoe) is worn too thin or has a hole, your shoes may require rand repair.

Rand Repair Situations

Half Resole Needed (No rand repair needed)
  • Sharp edges of the bottom sole have rounded off
  • A reduction in edging performance
  • There is a slight receding in the bottom sole in relation to the rand
Action
A half resole will restore your shoe's performance.
Rand Repair Likely Needed
  • The edges are almost gone
  • A greater impact to edging performance
  • There is a noticeable receding in the bottom sole that trends to the bottom of the shoe
Action
Rand repair is likely needed to restore the shoe's integrity.
Rand Repair Needed
  • The edges are completely worn away and the rand is the outer most part of the shoe to contact the climbing wall
  • A hole is noticeable on the rand (i.e. the toe box)
  • There is a clear receding in seam between the rubber sole and the rand sitting at bottom of the shoe
Action
Your shoe requires rand repair. This service will restore functionality, but further use could cause additional damage.
Rand Beyond Repair
  • Major holes or tears in the shoe causing frayed material and/or a hole to the inside of the shoe
  • Leather upper is cracked or rotted underneath the rand (usually due to age or lack of proper care).
Action
If the shoe is beyond repair, we’ll offer a full refund of service charges and options to return or dispose of the shoes.
